Frances Cheung-Suen, To

Hi! Thank's for visiting my portfolio.

My name is Frances Cheung Suen, To. I began painting and drawing at the age of four. When I was twelve, my drawings caught the attention of the South China Morning Post (Hong Kong) editor. She published an article about me, described me as a talented young artist and awarded me an Honour Certificate. For the next twenty years, I have studied with the renowned painter, Professor Chao Shao-an (M.B.E.), of the Ling Nam Chinese Painting School, and learned Chinese calligraphy with Ms. Lui Tai (for two years). I graduated in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I worked as an art head teacher at Chinese Cultural Centre (British Columbia, Canada) in 2003 to 2006.

I held my first solo exhibition at the Fringe Club in Hong Kong in 1990. Later, I moved to Vancouver, Canada and joined the Federation of Canadian Artist. From June 1993 to March 1996, I have actively participated in 16 shows with the Federation of Canadian Artist, and was accepted by the Federation of Canadian Artists for "AFCA" status in 1995.

Besides Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, sketching, and watercolor painting, I also do paper-cuts. I have created my new style of paper-cut in 1993. What I depict in my small-sized artworks are the contrast between movement and stillness, illusion and reality, and lastly, richness and sparseness.
